phrase that was typed into the search engine. So if the search was
for ‘lake district hotel’ then a page that contains
information relating to a ‘lake district hotel’ should

Changes to make your web pages more relevant can
be many and varied. Changes to the meta tags; Your chosen keyword(s)
should appear in the page heading(s); The <ALT> text for images
should contain your keyword(s), similarly links to other pages should
be named so they are relevant to the content of the page to which
they link.

Over optimisation (such as having a page full of
your keyword phrases and nothing else) will have a negative effect
on the position of your website in search engine results. The search

Links to your website from other websites are extremely
important in getting a high ranking on the search engines. The more
highly regarded or relevant the site that links to you, the more
weight the link will carry with the search engines. A one way link
to your site carries more weight than a reciprocal link (where you
link back to the other site).
